Week 4 of phase 2 of the Moose Mountain Marathon training program. Well it seems like before it even started, the 12 weeks of Moose Mountain specific training are almost over.
The 50K on Lake Calhoun really took it out of me - moreso than I alloted for in my schedule. I won't feel bad about last week, nor about the runs I missed this week. It's all about balance and listening to the body at this point.
Mon. 8/11:
6.14 mi.
Well i forgot to throw my KSO's in the ol' gym bag this morning and my Garmin didn't start locking onto satellites until about halfway through the run (wtf?!). Of course this wound up being a couple of blessings in disguise. I had a nice, barefoot run on the parkway and was unconcerned about pace, knew how far I wanted to go and it was LUSCIOUS! Had a nice little drizzle come down in the last couple miles that really put a smile on my face after a horrible, horrible first day back to work after vacation. It was the kind of run that makes one ponder the wonders and genius of the creator. Very fine.
Tue. 8/12:
9.06 mi. on muddy trails in the KSO's!
Wed. 8/13:
Finished my TOP SECRET PROJECT!! I would have to say that running has given me the focus and endurance to build a long awaited showcase for my other talents. I wondered if there would be any side-effects to my running habit, or if running might eventually inform my creative life. It has! Please visit the finished products here and here and let me know what you think!
Thu. 8/14:
6.41 mi. Another glorious barefoot run on the Parkway. I've never gotten a round of applause for running, but I did tonight! A young runner saw me running sans shoes, started clapping and yelled out "Nice!" That was...nice of him! I have noticed that the more comfortable I have become doing the out of the ordinary, the easier it is to give people big smiles and be open enough to talk to folks about how FANTASTIC it is to run barefoot and in KSO's!
Fri. 8/15:
Decided to take the day before the race off. A little worried about how un-snappy everything feels right now.
Sat. 8/16:
Maple Lake Days of Old Track and Trail 10K. Fun run! Lot of fast old dudes there. I wound up coming in at 45:14. The best part about the course is that every root and rut and rock was spray painted, so I could hit every one to best emulate some Superior Hiking Trail-like terrain. The RD did a fantastic job, and there was a lot of very helpful volunteer action as well! I got a lot of 'feedback' about the KSO's and was happy and eager to tell folks where to find 'em. Everything felt great - easy, even. It was weird. I didn't even feel like I was breathing hard at all until about four miles into the race, even though I knew I was going at a decent clip. Feet feel good, if just a tiny bit tender, but that's mostly due to the 12+ miles I did barefoot this week.
Hey, guess what?! My heart rate goes up to 205! Neat! Sheesh. See unabridged race report in the post below.
Sun. 8/17:
12.14 mi. on the trails surrounding the Parkway. I wore the NB790's for this run because I got a little hotspot on the outside of my right foot pounding the last two miles of dirt road/pavement at 98% of maximum capacity yesterday. This was a fun run. I wanted to keep the pace around 8:45 - 8:50, because according to my training log, that should be the pace I run a marathon at. Well, maybe a flat road marathon. Not Moose Mountain...
RUN TOTALS:
MILEAGE: 40.00 mi.

Cool design stuff. That cigar holder-thingy-ma-bob would interest my husband. He's in to cigars.
The cigar smoker caught my attention immediately. Seriously, there needs to be one of those! The kck website is great...very clean and easy to follow...now it's time to look around!
If you follow your heart, the universe will embrace you.
Nice work Keith! love the chair sketches.

Hey Keith, I posted a review of the Inov8 F-lite on my site: www.deserttrailrunner.blogspot.com.I just got the latest models and wow, good stuff. I'd be curious to know your thoughts compared to the New Balance shoes you've been running in. I have a marathon in the fall, so playing around with minimalist shoes. Great post!
So glad your frowning runners don't have beards.
When your shoe goes in to production, sign me up. The Top Secret Projects look great!
Your design stuff is cool! I will need to take some more time looking through these sites more thoroughly. Running can certainly stimulate the creative side of one's personality, it has for me and I don't think we are alone.
Some really cool stuff, I want to Beta test those new FiveFingers!
Love the ink sketches.
